WHERE ARE THE ELDERS?
Titus 2:2
That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
We live in times when we seek for the elders, the prophets and leaders who are the mouth piece of God, people who are counselors and advisers to the young generation. Where are they?
Deuteronomy 6:7
"you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Do we still have elders or have all abandoned the role model status. Have the elders joined the younger ones to misbehave or are they still found without reproach?
Titus 2:2(NLT)
[2]Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience.
* Are our elders self controlled or do they speak anyhow and act anyhow. Do they control what they say and how they react?
* Do our elders pull respect or do they just demand it (respect is earned not demanded). You could instruct people to respect, if they do not see that you earn it, what you get is pretense and eye-service.
* Are our elders truly wise, or have they sold their grace to all the filth, lust and compromise of the world?
* Do our elders have sound faith, are they worded? Do they rightfully divide the word of truth or are they living in past glory, their age or are they just mere conservatives?
* Are our elders filled with love, or are they stingy, always receiving and not giving, accumulators of wealth with no desire to bless and raise the younger ones? Are they tribalistic, sentimental or bigots?
1Peter 5:1-4
The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight [thereof], not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
Neither as being lords over [God's] heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
Many elders claim that they wait for the coming of the Lord. They need to remember:
Luke 12:43
Blessed [is] that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
NOT IDLE! selah
Finally, do our elderly men have patience and endurance?
The elders are not just about age, but include all who have been called to lead and those who are categorized as "matured christians".
The reason for the decadence and failure in Nigeria is the reign of evil, unqualified and unworthy elders.
What of our homes? Where are the elders?
Our churches, where do they stand?
Do we still have elderly men?
Are you an elder?
May the Lord revive His church and this nation afresh.
