OVERCOME THE WORLD
1John 5:5
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
We live in this world and though we are in the world those of us who have been born anew are not of this world but have been adopted as sons of God.
John 1:12
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name:
Many live in this world and feel that they have conquered the world because they have acquired wealth, position(s) of power, intellect or fame. Or have a form of religion. No they have not conquered the world they actually have been conquered of the world. Why?
Mark 8 : 36 & 37
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Even the devil made Jesus this offer:
Matthew 4 : 8 & 9
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
You cannot be in the world and conquer the world. To conquer a territory, you have to fight from outside the territory. That was what Jesus was trying to explain to Pilate, but he was of the world, thus he had no idea what was being said.
John 18:36
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
No wonder the enemy fights so hard to keep us in the world, filled with the consciousness of the flesh and earthy things. Jesus said:
John 3:6
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
There is no way we can be of the world and overcome the world. (selah)
1John 5:4
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, [even] our faith.
Therefore brethren, we must not be carried away with the world, we impact the world positively because we are light that shineth in its darkness.
Matthew 5:14
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Isaiah 60:1
Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.
Arise and shine,
* dwell in the spirit, listen and obey
* do not relent in prayer and worship
* dwell in the word, study and meditate
* evangelize
* choose to always do what is right, that is your real nature
1John 3:7
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
Once again, you cannot be of the world and overcome the world!
1John 5:4
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, [even] our faith.
REMEMBER:
1John 2:17
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
