Man's Desire 4
1Samuel 15:24
And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
1Samuel 15:22
And Samuel said, Hath the LORD [as great] delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey [is] better than sacrifice, [and] to hearken than the fat of rams.
One desire of man is to have the approval of other men. (man or woman 👍). We could go so deep in this that we forget who is important. That is God, the Father. At the long run we see the wisdom, though most times the damage has already been done.
See how the Messiah, Jesus the Christ looked at it:
John 2:24-25
But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men,
and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.
We must not think then that we do not need good testimony from our fellow humans. No, we ought to, we must live to have a good testimony. However we should know whose report superceeds. The testimony we have from men is a product of our good works, which is also a product of our nature, Jesus also enjoyed this.
Luke 2:52
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.
Matthew 16:13
When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?"
Acts 10:38
"how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
Ofcourse we must have a good report of men if we live the life of God and fulfil our purpose. However we must know when compromise arises, to take our mind away from God to seek self glory, to take God's place or to please man instead of God.
WISDOM IS INDEED NEEDED!
The higher we go the more vulnerable we could become. If we only take the increase in physical glory and not increase in wisdom, "fall" is eminent.
I have always testified that every place I am, is a preparation for where I am headed to. I believe God works thus in every believer's life.
We need others to achieve our aims, goals and visions. We need to have the right people and we need to know who is for what. Why this person and why the other. Everyone has his/her place.
So the desires keep coming, the need to be better, richer, stronger, and to achieve more. All these is good and is one reason to keep living.
Yet we must not forget who is in charge and who we account to. We must desire Him and His will above all.
Do read 2Peter 3: 1-18
2Peter 3:17
Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know [these things] before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
May we be found worthy of His approval. None of our effort would be wasted, may they all bear good fruit and may the good fruits abide.
